With the rest of District 12-6A moving on to basketball season, The Woodlands Highlanders are still going strong in the state playoffs with Christmas just around the corner.
This past week, the Highlanders stayed undefeated and advanced to the Class 6A Division I state semifinals by rolling to a 41-18 win over Round Rock.
Round Rock had no answer for a Highlanders’ offense that posted 543 total yards.
Eric Schmid continued to be a serious threat both on the ground and through the air as he threw for 247 yards and a score and ran for 107 yards and three more touchdowns.
Meanwhile the defense allowed over 400 yards but made the key plays as it never really let Round Rock get in the game.
Kesean Carter had five catches for 93 yards while Carlos Ramos ran for 79 yards on 13 carries and a touchdown.
The Highlanders were in control of the game almost from the opening kickoff as Schmid scored on a 12-yard run that made it 34-6 at halftime.
Ramos added a 19-yard touchdown run that made it 41-12 in the third quarter.
Next up for The Woodlands will be a matchup against perennial powerhouse Allen in a matchup of two of the best teams in the state.
It will be a matchup of unbeaten teams with Allen and The Woodlands carrying 14-0 marks into Saturday’s matchup in Austin.
Allen is coming off a 42-23 win over Duncanville. The Eagles have won 12 of their 14 games this season by double digits.
The Highlanders have won each of their last 13 games by double digits after a season-opening 23-20 win over Cy-Fair.
