Facing some top notch competition, the Lufkin Panthers and Lady Panthers’ soccer teams had a rough start to their season-opening tournaments as they each dropped a pair of games over the weekend.
After opening the season with a 4-0 win over Austin Del Valle, the Lady Pack battled to a 0-0 tie against Clear Lake in their second game of the College Station ISD Tournament.
Later in the day, the Lady Panthers dropped a 1-0 decision against Austin Anderson.
Lufkin then closed the tournament with a 4-0 loss against Friendswood.
The Lady Panthers will open their own tournament on Thursday with a 2 p.m. game against Nacogdoches.
Meanwhile the Panthers dropped their final two games of the Klein Showcase of Champions after a 1-0 win over Magnolia West in the opener.
Lufkin battled with Allen for much of the game before giving up two late goals in a 3-0 setback.
The Panthers closed the tournament with a 4-0 loss against state-ranked Strake Jesuit.
Lufkin will compete in the Longview tournament starting on Thursday.
The Panthers’ JV continued their solid start to the season with a 3-1 win over Crockett. Ivan Garcia scored a pair of goals while David Cisneros added a score.
