As one of the most decorated players in Lufkin soccer history, Kacy Bennett already has a state title and a District 16-5A MVP award among his list of accomplishments.
He recently added yet another pair of awards as he was named to TASCO’s First-Team All-Region Team. In addition, he was named honorable mention on TASCO’s All-State team.
He had company from a teammate as Alexis Roque was named to TASCO’s Second-Team All-Region Team.
“They’re both very deserving of those honors,” Lufkin head coach Russell Shaw said. “They’ve meant so much to this soccer program.”
Bennett recently capped off a career in which he was a three-year starter for the Panthers. After earning a first-team all-district selection as a junior and scoring a goal in the state championship game, he had an even better senior season as Lufkin advanced within a game of another trip to the regional tournament.
“Around here we all know what kind of a player he is, but other coaches have to notice it in order for him to get this award,” Shaw said. “He’s earned every award he’s gotten and really represented Lufkin very well.”
Roque earned his honor in a year in which he was also a first-team member of the 16-5A squad.
“He was our offensive leader, and doing that as a midfielder is quite a challenge,” Shaw said. “In addition to that, he has his defensive responsibilities. This is a great honor and it’s well deserved.”
