Alton Dixon, an assistant coach for the Panthers football team, was involved in an accident Monday night on Raguet Street in Lufkin.

KTRE reports Jesus Acosta, 69, was driving a PT Cruiser that pulled out in front of Dixon at the intersection of Old Mill Road and Raguet Street. Acosta died at CHI St. Luke’s Memorial Health where he was transported after the accident.

Dixon was airlifted to Texas Medical Center in Tyler after being transported to a nearby hospital, according to KTRE.

Dixon is a graduate of Lufkin High School. He went on to play football for Texas A&M. In 2012, Dixon rejoined his Lufkin Panthers as assistant coach.
