Garcia perfect as Panthers blank John Tyler

The Lufkin Panthers’ baseball team has been a good team throughout their run near the top of the District 16-5A standings. On Friday night, Lufkin pitcher Manuel Garcia was simply perfect, leading the Pack to a 10-0 victory over the John Tyler Lions at Tyler’s Mike Carter Field.

The Panthers’ pitcher baffled John Tyler hitters throughout the night, not allowing a single Lion to reach base in the perfect game. He struck out eight batters and induced seven groundball outs six flyball outs on the way to the win.

With the perfect game on the line in the seventh inning, he induced a popup to first base, a grounder to third base before striking out the final batter.
He had plenty of support from his offense, which struck for four runs in the first inning and scored in six of seven innings. The Panthers were aided by John Tyler miscues that included six walks, four hit batters and four errors.

That allowed the Panthers to total 10 runs despite only five hits.

Luke Rowley, Blake Lazarine and Haylen Green each had a single and an RBI, Jonathan Dewberry, Max Quick and each had a single, Ben Osgood drove in three runs and Kolten Eberlan drove in a run.

The Panthers got on the board in the first inning as Dewberry singled, stole second and third and scored on a wild pitch. The lead went to 2-0 as Luke Rowley singled, stole second then scored on an error by the catcher.

Two more errors and another hit batter allowed Quick and Green to come around with the third and fourth runs of the inning.
Garcia started the second inning with a single and Lazarine later delivered an RBI single to make it 5-0.

Quick led off the third inning with a single and came around to score on an Osgood groundout that put the Panthers on top 6-0.

Lufkin continued to add to that lead with two runs in the fourth inning with Dewberry being hit by a pitch and eventually scoring on another John Tyler error.

Dylan Murphy was then hit by a pitch then came around to score on Green’s RBI single to make it 8-0.

In the fifth inning, Adrian Cantu was hit by a pitch and came around to score on a passed ball for a 9-0 advantage.

Cantu also scored Lufkin’s 10th run in the seventh inning.
