It was a nail-biter, edge-of-your-seat finale; and that was before the Lady Pack varsity game Tuesday night at Panther Gym.
The JV girls came from behind to win their match-up against the JV Oak Ridge Lady War Eagles, literally coming down to the last seconds to put up a 28-27 finish.
When the Varsity girls took to the court, the story was drastically different. Offensively, Ebonie Williams (24) and Kassie Jones (5) led the Lady Pack to a 16-0 start in the first quarter. The Lady War Eagles tried to steal the ball away and make the drive down the court, but a speedy Lady Pack was ready at the goal for the rebound. Lufkin defensively held Oak Ridge to a basket and a free throw for both quarters, taking a 28-3 game into the half.
The Lady War Eagles found their rhythm in the third, putting up a quick seven points without a Pack answer. When the Lady Panthers did answer back, they roared ahead with Jones putting up 10 of her 31 overall points to put the game at 34-15.
Lufkin put up another 18 points in the fourth, making it their highest scoring quarter of the game and finished off with a 52-26 win against the Oak Ridge Lady War Eagles.
Friday, Jan. 18, the girls look to repeat their Dec. 11 win against the Conroe Lady Tigers, this time in Tiger territory and, hopefully, by more than a 3-point margin.
