The Lufkin Lady Panthers started and finished strong in taking a 70-49 road win over the John Tyler Lady Lions on Tuesday night.
Keke Cleveland led three Lady Panthers into double digits with 17 points as Lufkin improved to 2-0 on the young season.
She was joined in double digits by JaKayla Suell with 14 points and Alexis Hood with 13.
Lufkin looked like it would be on its way to an easy win when it jumped out to a 23-5 lead in the opening minutes of the game.
However a cold stretch let John Tyler back into the game as it cut that margin to 29-25 by halftime.
Lufkin pulled away from there, using a 25-11 run to build a 54-36 lead before coasting to the 21-point win.
Other Lufkin scorers were Kurstyn Harden (6), Ivie Massie, Deja Shepherd and Diamond Johnson (5), Jada Johnson (4) and Destinee Holman (2).
Lufkin will compete in the Splendora tournament this weekend before returning home to face Diboll on Monday afternoon with the JV starting at 5 p.m. and the varsity following.
On Tuesday, Lufkin faces Beaumont Ozen with the JV starting at 1:30 p.m. and the varsity starting at 3.
