The Lufkin Lady Panthers’ basketball team continued its torrid start to the season as it took second place in the Beaumont YMBL Tournament over the weekend.
The Lady Pack started the season by rolling to a 67-51 win over Fort Bend Elkins with Jakayla Suell leading the way with 23 points. She was joined in double digits by Alexis Hood with 12 points.
Other scorers for Lufkin were Ivie Massie and Kurstyn Harden (8), Destinee Denning and KeKe Cleveland (5), Jada Johnson (4) and Destinee Holman (2).
On Friday, Lufkin battled to a pair of single-digit wins, getting past New Orleans Landry by a 59-51 score to advance to the semifinals of the tournament.
The Lady Panthers then advanced to the championship game with a narrow 45-40 win over Beaumont Central.
However, the Lady Panthers came up just short in the title game, dropping a 61-53 decision to Beaumont Legacy despite an 18-point game from Cleveland.
Harden added 12 points for the Lady Panthers. Other scorers were Diamond Johnson (8), Alexis Hood (7) and Destinee Dearing (6).
Lufkin was well represented on the all-tournament team with Suell, Massie and Harden each being named to the squad.
The Lady Panthers improved their record to 11-2 on the season with the 3-1 showing over the weekend.
