A return to the state’s biggest classification didn’t slow down Lufkin as the Lady Panthers’ basketball team opened district action with a 70-53 win over the Oak Ridge Lady Eagles on Friday night.
Lufkin had a slow start to the night as it trailed 32-26 at halftime before outscoring Oak Ridge 44-21 after the break on its way to the win.
JaKayla Suell led the Lady Panthers with 23 points, while Diamond Johnson had 16.
KeKe Cleveland added 12 points, while Alexis Hood had 11.
After Lufkin trailed 32-26 at halftime, it used a solid third quarter to take a 45-42 lead into the final eight minutes.
From there, it was all Lady Panthers as they used a 25-11 run in the final quarter for the win.
Lufkin improved to 15-6 on the season with the win. The Lady Panthers will hit the road on Tuesday to take on The Woodlands.
