The Lufkin Lady Panthers’ softball team will resume its run through the playoffs when they take on the Mansfield Timberview Timberwolves in a Class 5A Region II Area best-of-three series this weekend.

Like last week when the Lady Panthers swept Texas High, they will start the series on the road. On Friday night, the Lady Panthers will play at Mansfield Timberview High School’s softball field at 6 p.m.

The series will resume on Saturday afternoon when the Lady Panthers host Mansfield Timberview at 12:30 at Morris Frank Park.

A third game, if necessary, would be played 30 minutes following the conclusion of the second game.

This past weekend, the Lady Panthers used a revitalized offense to take down Texas High.

Lufkin took a 7-4 win in the road opener. The Lady Panthers then waited out a lengthy lightning delay to pick up a 10-3 win on Friday night.

Mansfield Timberview, the third-place team from District 14-5A, opened the playoffs with a 6-3 win over Seagoville.

The winner of this week’s playoff series will advance to the regional quarterfinals where it will take on the Hallsville/Ennis winner.
