The Lufkin Panthers’ 7-on-7 team will look to punch a ticket to College Station when it hosts a state qualifying tournament on Saturday afternoon. Lufkin is one of 16 teams that will be competing at the event with the two squads that make it to the championship game earning a spot in the state tournament. The event will take place at Abe Martin Stadium, Jase Magers Soccer Field and the LHS practice fields.
Each team will have three guaranteed games with the top team from each pool advancing to the 12:30 p.m. semifinals. Due to two teams advancing to the state tournament, no championship game will be played. Lufkin will compete in Pool A along with College Station, New Caney and Lehman and each of its games will take place at John Outlaw Memorial Field at Abe Martin Stadium. The state 7-on-7 tournament will be held at College Station’s Veterans Park and Athletic Complex on July 8-9. Following is a schedule for Saturday’s event.
Pool A: (John Outlaw Memorial Field at Abe Martin Stadium): Lufkin, New Caney, College Station, Lehman.
Pool B: (Jase Magers Soccer Field): St. Pius, Bryan Rudder, Willis, Huntsville.
Pool C: (Practice field): Longview, Beaumont West Brook, Montgomery, Houston Christian.
Pool D: (Practice field): Atascocita, Lindale, Pine Tree, New Caney Porter. 9 a.m.: Lufkin vs. Lehman; St. Pius vs. Huntsville; Longview vs. Houston Christian; Atascocita vs. New Caney Porter; New Caney vs. College Station, Rudder vs. Willis, Beaumont West Brook vs. Montgomery; Lindale vs. Pine Tree. 10 a.m.: College Station vs. Lufkin; Willis vs. St. Pius; Montgomery vs. Longview; Pine Tree vs. Atascocita; Lehman vs. New Caney, Huntsville vs. Rudder; Houston Christian vs. Beaumont West Brook; New Caney Porter vs. Lindale. 11 a.m.: Lufkin vs. New Caney; St. Pius vs. Rudder; Longview vs. Beaumont West Brook; Atascocita vs. Lindale; College Station vs. Lehman; Huntsville vs. Willis; Montgomery vs. Houston Christian; New Caney Porter vs. Pine Tree. 12:30 p.m.: Pool A winner vs. Pool B winner; Pool C winner vs. Pool D winner.
