The 2016 season came to an end with several Lufkin athletes competing at the Class 5A Region II Track and Field Meet at UT-Arlington’s Maverick Stadium this past week.
Lufkin failed to have a state qualifier although it had a strong representation against the best teams from across the region.
LaVonte White had a strong showing with Top 10 finishes in a pair of events. White had a time of 14.80 to take seventh place in the 110-meter hurdles.
He also competed in the 300-meter hurdles, where he finished with a time of 40.00 for a 10th-place finish.
Lufkin also had a Top 10 finish in the 3,200-meter run as Le’Vante Williams raced to a time of 10:04.50 to finish in eighth place.
Lufkin’s Auntarrion Coutee competed in the discus where he finished in 14th place with a throw of 118-feet- 6 inches.
In addition, the team of Jadrian Grimes, Jacorey Miller, Kordell Rodgers and Braylon Garcia competed in the 800-meter relay.
The Texas Track and Field State Meet will be held May 12-14 at Mike A. Myers Stadium at the University of Texas in Austin.
