The Lufkin Panthers’ soccer team rolled to an impressive 5-2 win over Port Arthur Memorial on Friday afternoon before stumbling to a 4-0 loss against Mount Pleasant as they rounded out their own showcase this weekend.
On Friday afternoon, Lufkin struck early and often on its way to the blowout win.
Lufkin scored all five of its goals in the first half on its way to a 5-1 advantage. From there, it was able to turn away Port Arthur Memorial, who managed a second-half goal but never really threatened.
The Panthers had a balanced scoring effort with five different players recording goals.
Scorers for the Panthers were Jason Camacho, Javier Palomar, Bryan Pineda, Jared Vasquez and Juan Rios.
However, Lufkin couldn’t find its footing in the tournament finale on Saturday as Mount Pleasant scored two goals in each half on the way to the shutout win.
Lufkin went 1-2 over the weekend, including a 3-2 loss to Kingwood Park on Thursday night.
The Panthers will return to action on Tuesday night as they travel to Jacksonville for a JV/Varsity doubleheader. The JV will play at 4 p.m. with the varsity following at 6 p.m.
