In an early matchup of two of Angelina County’s best teams, the Lufkin Lady Panthers flexed their muscle in holding off the Diboll Lady Jacks, 65-53, at Panther Gym on Monday night.
JaKayla Suell led the way with 19 points for the Lady Panthers as they built on the momentum built after winning four of five games in the Splendora tournament over the weekend.
Lufkin led 15-9 after the first quarter before extending that margin to 39-23 at the half.
That lead ballooned to 59-40 after three quarters before the Lady Panthers held off a final surge to preserve the victory.
Kurstyn Harden added 11 points for the Lady Panthers.
Other scorers for Lufkin were KeKe Cleveland (9), Alexis Hood (8), Ivie Massie (7) and Destinee Holman (7), Diamond Johnson (4) and Destinee Denning (3).
Mia Williams led the Lady Jacks with 21 points while Nia Mitchell had 9. Other Diboll scorers were Kayla Box (5), Hannah Boykins (3) and Michelle Finley (2).
