John Outlaw Golf Tournament: July 23-24
Local football and golf fans will get the chance to come together for a good cause as the 4th Annual John Outlaw Memorial Golf Tournament will be held at Crown Colony Country Club on July 23-24. The event helps raise funds for the John Outlaw Foundation, which raises money for scholarships for Lufkin High School student/athletes. The event is sponsored by Wright Buick GMC and Lufkin Coca-Cola. Cost is $550 per team with cart included. Registration is limited to the first 60 paid teams and the event will be a four-man scramble format. In addition to hole-in-one prizes, there will be cash prizes for the top three teams. First place wins $1,800, second place wins $1,100 and third place wins $800. Baseball Camp: May 31-June 3
The Lufkin Panthers will host a free baseball camp from May 31-June 3. The camp is for incoming sixth through ninth graders and will be held at Morris Frank Park’s high school baseball field. The camp will be held from 9 a.m.-noon each day and be instructed by the Panthers’ coaching staff. Soccer Camp: May 31-June 3
The Lufkin Panthers’ Soccer Camp will be held at Kit McConnico Park from May 31-June 3. The camp is for players entering kindergarten through ninth grade. The camp for K-3rd graders will be from 8:30-10 a.m. The cam for fourth through ninth graders will be held from 10 a.m.-noon. Registration fee is $60, which includes a camp T-shirt, and will be taken on the first day of the camp. Emphasis of the camp will be on player development, individual skills and small group training. It will be instructed by Lufkin soccer coaches David McPherson and Antonio Encarnacion.
