The bittersweet aroma of crushed expectations hung in the air as the Lufkin Panthers fell to The Woodlands Highlanders on Jan. 4 at Panther Gym, blemishing an early 1-0 district record.
The scoreboard read 46-33 at the final buzzer, but it is not the whole story. While the loss is no doubt bitter, the Panthers strong defense proved to be the key to the sweet part.
They accomplished something only one other team has done this season.
It is the lowest scoring game for The Highlanders, who average almost 65 points a game and have come within 10 points of the 100 mark. The Pack joins A&M Consolidated who held the Highlanders to 48 points during their match.
No. It is not a pure win. It sure is sweet, though. Something the Pack will remember as they host the College Park Cavaliers on Friday, Jan. 11 2013 at 7 p.m. in Panther Gym.
