Lufkin soccer teams drop district openers

The Lufkin Panthers and Lady Panthers had a rough start to district action as they each dropped games to College Park.

On the boys side at Jase Magers Soccer Field, Lufkin got off to a quick start with an early goal before allowing three straight scores in a 3-1 setback against the College Park Cavaliers.

Lufkin put up an early score on a Javier Palomar goal in the opening minutes of the game. However, that was all the offense the Panthers could manage in the loss.

In JV action, the Lady Panthers came away with a 4-0 win while the Panthers battled to a scoreless draw.

The Panthers will once again be at home on Friday night as they take on the Conroe Tigers. The JV game will start at 4 p.m. with the varsity following at 6 p.m.

The Lady Panthers will have a second straight road game to start district on Friday night as they travel to face Conroe. The JV game will start at 4 p.m. with the varsity following at 6.
