Lufkin Softball Sets Playoff Series

The Lufkin Lady Panthers will look to take their final step to the state tournament this week as they take on Frisco in the Class 5A Region II Final this weekend. Fresh off a thrilling series win over North Forney, the Lady Panthers will look to take the final step to their first-ever trip to the state tournament.

The series will start on Thursday night when Lufkin makes the lengthy trip to Prosper for a 7 p.m. contest. The series returns to East Texas on Saturday afternoon as Game 2 of the series will be held at Jasper High School at 2 p.m.

A third game, if necessary, would be played 30 minutes after the conclusion of the second game. The matchup is between two of the top teams in the state.

Frisco enters as the first-ranked team in the Texas Girls Coaches Association poll, while Lufkin is ranked third. On the baseball side, Lufkin will continue its run through the playoffs with a best-of-three Class 5A Region II Semifinal series against Mesquite Poteet.

That series will start on Thursday night at 7 p.m. It will resume on Saturday at 5 p.m. with a third game to follow if necessary. All games will be played at Tyler’s Mike Carter Field.
