The Lufkin Lady Panthers’ softball team hit the field for the first time in preparation for the 2017 season with impressive results as they swept a pair of scrimmages over Hallsville and Henderson on Monday night.
Making the trip to Henderson, Lufkin started the day with a hard-fought 2-0 win over Hallsville. Lexy Ramirez delivered the offense for Lufkin with a two-run homer.
Lufkin then took a 7-0 win over Henderson.
Ramirez delivered a grand slam for the Lady Panthers. Smiley Radke had three hits at the plate and Julie Armes had a double and single. Leah Akridge delivered a pair of doubles.
For the day, Radke stifled both teams with 14 strikeouts in just five innings. She also allowed a total of three hits.
Ramirez added two strikeouts in three innings while giving up one hit.
Local fans can get their first look at the Lady Panthers on Saturday morning when they host a scrimmage against the Hudson Lady Hornets and Central Lady Bulldogs at Morris Frank Park.
Games will start at 9 a.m.
