This Friday for the Lufkin Panthers 3rd straight home game at Abe Martin Stadium on the new John Outlaw Memorial field, the Pack with face off against the Longview Lobos led by Coach John King. The Panthers may still be reeling from a major upset last season which left them scoreless for the first 3 quarters of their game in Lobo Stadium (final score was 24-10). But since we have the home field advantage in the number one high school football city, the Panthers may have just the gusto they need to take down Longview, now ranked #14 among 5A schools in the state. Lufkin leads the meetings against Longview 35-33-4, winning 2 games straight in 2009 & 2010. This will be our 73rd meeting against the Lobos making them a long-time rival despite the fact that we are no longer district rivals. The Lobos, prestige aside, have only 1 state championship in their back pocket just like the Panthers. In my book, that’s an even playing field. GO PACK!
