When the final buzzer sounded, members of the Lufkin Panther football team as well as other Lufkin High students flooded the court to celebrate the 70-47 win over the Conroe Tigers at the Second Annual White Out Night at Panther Gym, Jan. 18.
With the Conroe Tigers on the other side of the ball, it had the rivalry and energy of homecoming. Lufkin High students showed up in white body paint and cheered on Cole Tucker (14), Dominque Shaw (4) and Terrance Penson (21) as they steamrolled over the Tigers.
With a little help from the Lufkin High School Drumline, the Panthers kept up the winning pace during the third and fourth quarters. As Conroe rallied at the end of the third and into the beginning of the fourth, Lufkin pulled further ahead, keeping the lead out of Tiger reach.
Up next for the Panthers, A&M Consolidated will pay a visit to Panther Gym on Jan 22 at 6:30. When these two met nearly a month ago, Lufkin rolled to a 50-44 win on the road. Now, the Panthers hope to put the brakes on the A&M Consolidated winning streak.
