It was a tough night for the Lufkin soccer teams as the Panthers and Lady Panthers each dropped games against Oak Ridge on Friday night.
On Senior Night, the Lady Pack dropped a 2-0 decision to Oak Ridge.
Brianna Roberts got the Lady Eagles on the board with a goal early in the second half and Lexi Primacio added another score on their way to the win.
With the loss, Lufkin is currently in third place in the district headed into the final game of the regular season. The Lady Panthers will travel to face The Woodlands on Tuesday night.
On the boys side, it was a back and forth affair before the Panthers eventually suffered a 2-1 setback.
After a lightning delay that lasted over an hour, Oak Ridge, which is coached by former Panther Gareth Glick, took advantage of a Lufkin misplay deep in its own territory with Devonte Brown scoring for a 1-0 advantage.
Lufkin didn’t take long to tie the game as Jared Vasquez passed to Eric Cebrian, who converted the score to tie the game at 1-1.
The War Eagles finally got the game winner early in the second half when Jason Maples converted a penalty kick.
With the loss, Lufkin (6-11-3, 3-5-1) fell into a fourth-place tie with Conroe. The Panthers will close out the regular season on Tuesday night when it hosts The Woodlands.
