In their final tuneup before the start of district action, the Lufkin Panthers looked ready to go as they rolled to a convincing 56-27 win over the Nacogdoches Dragons on the road Friday night.
Courtnee Garcia led the way for the Panthers with 14 points, five assists, three rebounds and a steal. Nick Wilson added 12 points and eight rebounds, while Chris Thompson had 11 points and James Jefferson had eight. Kordell Rodgers added four points, nine assists and four rebounds. Lufkin scorers were rounded out by Jeremiah Davis (3) and Kole Stubblefield and KeVonte Hurts (2).
With the win, the Panthers improved to 15-8 on the season. Lufkin will open the district slate on Friday night when it plays host to the College Park Cavaliers.
College Park is led by Quentin Grimes, one of the top juniors in the nation, who is averaging close to 30 points per game.
The Cavaliers are 16-9 on the season and coming off a 100-95 win over perennial powerhouse Silsbee.
