The Lufkin Panthers’ basketball team bounced back from a rough day with a pair of wins at the Leroy Romines Memorial Basketball Tournament in Longview on Thursday.
Lufkin started the day with a 52-41 over Buna. That win put the Panthers into the Silver bracket as the third place team from its own pool. Center finished in first place while John Tyler was second with each of those teams advancing to the Gold bracket.
Buna joined Lufkin in the Silver bracket.
The Panthers followed that win with an outstanding defensive effort in a 54-39 win over the Henderson Lions.
Courtnee Garcia had another big game as he paced the Panthers with 18 points. KeVonte Hurts had 11, and Breylon Garcia joined them in double digits with 10.
Other Lufkin scorers were Chris Thompson (5), Nick Wilson (4) and Kordell Rodgers, James Jefferson and Jacourtney Calvin (2).
The Panthers will return to action in the Silver bracket on Friday morning at 10 a.m. That game will be against the C.E. King/Liberty-Eylau winner, which was played on Thursday night.
A win in that game would put the Panthers in the Silver bracket championship at 4 p.m.
