The Lufkin Panthers’ basketball team had an up and down weekend as it split four games in the Royse City tournament.
The Panthers started the tournament in dominating fashion with Chris Thompson scoring 18 points to lead the Panthers to a 76-35 win over Anna.
Lufkin put four players in double digits with Courtnee Garcia scoring 11 and Breylon Garcia and Nick Wilson adding 10 each.
Other Lufkin scorers were Kole Stubblefield (6), KeVonte Hurts and Kodie Collison (5), Jacourtney Calvin (4), Jeremiah Davis (3) and Kordell Rodgers and James Jefferson (2).
When the team returned for action on Friday, it dropped a 57-39 decision to Sulphur Springs. Garcia was the only double-digit scorer for the Panthers with 10 points.
Other Lufkin scorers were Garcia (6), Wilson and Thompson (5), Calvin and Jefferson (4), Rodgers (3) and Jeremiah Davis (2).
Later in the day, Lufkin bounced back with a 50-42 win over a traveling team from Australia behind a 13-point effort from Garcia. Wilson added 10 points for Lufkin.
Other Lufkin scorers were Jefferson, Breylon Garcia and Hurts (6), Davis (5), Kodie Callison (4) and Kole Stubblefield, Thompson and Calvin (2).
On Saturday, Courtnee Garcia led Lufkin in scoring for the third straight game with 18 points, but it wasn’t enough as the Panthers dropped a 70-60 decision to Royse City.
Thompson added 16 points for the Pack, while Wilson had 13. Other Lufkin scorers were Jefferson (5), Garcia (4) and Rodgers and Hurts (2).
Lufkin moved to 4-3 on the season after splitting four games over the weekend.
