Dunbar, shown seated with father Jim, mother Diane, and girlfriend Miranda Dugat, will trade Panther purple for Dragon green as he signed a letter of intent to play for Paris Junior College on Thursday, May 2, 2013.
He began playing golf early in life with his grandfather, Tommy Dorsey. In 8th grade, playing for fun changed to playing for life during a golf camp at Texas A&M in College Station. It’s a good thing, too. When Dunbar entered high school, he joined the golf team after they had won a state tournament.
“He had to grow up real fast,” said golf coach Danny Leatherman. “(Tyler) started as a freshman,” and the following year, “had the chance to play in the state championships at Pascal in Fort Worth.” A dream come true for many young golfers.
Ultimately, Dunbar aspires to trade in the green shirt for a Masters’ green jacket. “But I can’t play for that right now. I have to go through college,” said Dunbar, who plans to study business at PJC.
