After four straight wins to open district action, the Lufkin Panthers finally hit their first roadblock as they dropped a 68-57 decision on the road against The Woodlands Highlanders on Friday night.
Courtnee Garcia led the Panthers with 17 points while Nick Wilson poured in 14. They were joined in double digits by Kordell Rodgers, who added 11 points.
Other scorers were James Jefferson (4), Jeremiah Davis (3) and Chris Thompson (2).
The Panthers trailed 29-24 at halftime before The Woodlands was able to pull away late.
With the loss, Lufkin dropped to 4-1 while the Highlanders improved to 4-1 as those teams are currently tied for first place.
Lufkin will open the second half of district play on Tuesday night as it travels to face the College Park Cavaliers.
On the girls side, Lufkin picked up a pivotal road victory as it rolled past The Woodlands, 66-42.
The Lady Panthers led 16-13 after a quarter and 32-24 at halftime before using a 20-8 run in the third quarter to pull ahead for a 52-32 lead headed into the final quarter.
The Lady Panthers improved to 5-2 in district action with the win. They will stay at home on Tuesday as they host the College Park Lady Cavaliers.
