Traditionally, the lyrics are sung “two turtle doves and a partridge in a pear tree.” Now, the Lady Panthers could make it, “two big wins in one week.”
On Tuesday, Dec. 18, the Lady Panthers met A&M Consolidated on the court for the first of two games in four days, dominating the Lady Tigers, 40-32 at Panther Gym.
Lufkin put the first points up with just 7:25 on the clock. The next battle was to keep ahead of the Lady Tigers, who utilized a fast-paced approach to try to wear down the Lady Pack. The Panthers countered with aggressively going after the defensive rebound. By the half, Lufkin maintained the lead, 20-16.
When a refreshed Pack came out on the court, the strategy was the same: don’t let the Lady Tigers score on the rebound. In the fourth, the Lady Tigers’ speed and accuracy increased, putting up a few points of their own. Lufkin, however, managed the ball and the clock well, which kept the Tigers at bay.
The Lady Panthers then put the momentum of the win on the road and headed north to face the Nacogdoches Lady Dragons in non-district play on Friday, Dec. 21 at Dragon Coliseum. The Lady Pack returned home with the win, 41-32.
The Lady Panthers must have been very good this year. They got Tigers and Dragons neatly tied with bows under the gleaming and glowing basketball goal. Now, they can rest for the holiday break, with visions of shredding The Woodlands Highlanders on Jan. 4, 2013 dancing in their heads.
Merry Christmas and way to go, Pack!
