Vikings Sink Lufkin, 4-1

Vs-BryanThe Bryan Vikings sank hopes of a late-season surge by the Lufkin Panthers on Friday night at Morris Frank Park in Lufkin with a lethal combination of doubles and RBIs.

Pitcher Timmy Martinez led off for Lufkin, holding the Vikings at bay at first. However, the Vikings would not be deterred, scoring three runs by the bottom of the fourth to Lufkin’s one run. In the fifth, Martinez caught an infield grounder and threw it to short-stop Gunnar Quick for the out on the go-ahead run to third. The defensive quick thinking, which could have easily been a major error for the Panthers, kept it a 3-1 game for just a little bit longer. As the sixth inning got underway, the Vikings scored again, making it a final score of 4-1.

With just two district games left, the season is winding down for Lufkin, who will face Oak Ridge on Friday, April 19 at Morris Frank Park in Lufkin.
