Lady Panthers fall just short against The Woodlands

The Lufkin Lady Panthers’ upset bid came up just short as they dropped a 2-1 eight-inning decision against the Woodlands Lady Highlanders in District 12-6A action on the road Friday night.

Looking to hand The Woodlands its first loss in district play, Smiley Radke responded with another stellar performance in the pitching circle, striking out nine batters.

Lexy Ramirez had a diving catch in the outfield and Leah Akridge had a diving play to record an out at first.

Lufkin got on the board thanks to an RBI from Akridge, who also finished the game with a pair of hits.

Yami Valdez added a hit and a run and Cailee Hendrick hit a double.

However, The Woodlands was able to push across a run in the eighth inning to come away with another district win.

The Lady Panthers will be back in action on Tuesday night as it travels to take on College Park.
