Lufkin basketball teams pick up road wins


The Lufkin Panthers and Lady Panthers’ basketball teams hit the road on Tuesday night, coming away with a pair of non-district victories.

Lady Pack 65, West Orange-Stark 29 – The Lady Panthers had no problems in dismantling West Orange-Stark, rolling to a 65-29 win on Tuesday night.

Alexis Hood led Lufkin with 20 points, while Diamond Johnson had 15 and KeKe Cleveland had 11.

Other Lufkin scorers were Destinee Holman (6), Destinee Denning (5), Jada Johnson (4) and Ivie Massie and Deja Shepherd (3).

Lufkin is off on Friday before returning to action on Tuesday when it will face Lufkin at Angelina College at 3:30 p.m.

Panthers 67, Jacksonville 45 – After taking second place in its own tournament over the weekend, the Panthers showed no signs of slowing down when they traveled to face Jacksonville on Tuesday night, coming away with a 67-45 win.

The Panthers had a balanced effort with Courtnee Garcia the only one in double digits with 15 points.

Other Lufkin scorers were Jeremiah Davis (9), Nick Wilson and KeVonte Hurts (7), Kodie Callison, Jacourtney Calvin and Breylon Garcia (6) and Chris Thompson and Christian Reggie (4).

The Panthers took control from the start, racing out to a 16-4 lead after the first quarter. Jacksonville narrowed that margin to 23-14 at half before Lufkin led 44-31 after three quarters and pulled away late.

Lufkin (8-5) returns home to face John Tyler on Friday night.
