With Angelina College ushering in a new era with the addition of a pair of soccer programs, they didn’t have to go far to find plenty of their talent.
Several Lufkin graduates will be on the field when the Roadrunners kick off their inaugural season.
On the boys side, former Panthers, including many that brought a state title to Lufkin, will play pivotal roles.
Gregorio Rojo is a sophomore transfer on the team. Other former Panthers on the roster include Kacy Bennett, Dorian Bravo, Cesar Camacho, Enrique Carranza, Jesus Cisneros, Freddy Esoh, Gustavo Garcia, Julio Islas, Luis Lopez, Jose Perez, Riley Thornton and Othonie Zamarron.
The team’s manager is Lufkin’s Juan Santamaria.
On the girls’ side, Joni Olivo will be the lone former Lady Panther on the squad.
Those players will be in familiar territory in the home opener, which will be played at Jase Magers Soccer Field on Aug. 30 against Ranger.
The Lady ‘Runners will kick off at 6 p.m. while the Roadrunners will start at 8 p.m.
