Courtnee Garcia scored 27 points as the Lufkin Panthers got the best of their long-time rival, rolling to a 71-49 win over the Longview Lobos at Panther Gym Tuesday night.
Garcia’s long-range game gave Lufkin a slim early lead, which it extended throughout the night before finally slamming the door on the Lobos in the second half.
Garcia was joined in double digits by Chris Thompson, who had 14 points. KeVonte Hurts added 10 points for the Panthers.
The Panthers used their defensive presence to hang on for an early 11-8 lead after the opening quarter.
Lufkin then began to open things up in the second quarter as it extended its lead to 11 at 27-16 by halftime.
The Panthers then pulled away in the second half to coast to the 22-point win, its second home victory of the season.
Lufkin also opened the season with a home win over Marshall before dropping a road game at Tyler Lee.
The Panthers (2-1) will open the Royse City tournament on Thursday. Lufkin will return home on Tuesday when it hosts Huntsville at 6:15 p.m.
The Lufkin tournament is set for Dec. 8-10.
